THE OLD WAY OF LOOKING
Some journeys take you to vistas that bring you to another visioning of the idea of place — how to site, for sight. The fortress, the seabound light turret, the castle might, the ocean wall, the ringed labyrinth, the mountain village, the monastery, the ancient city — mounted high, rock surveilling — looking out over the expanse.
These sited rocks, stone on stone — peering out, piercing the horizon with lines of sight, the long line of visioning starts with the miracle of looking out. The look out, what could be seen beyond, in scene, is what is not only at the closest touch of the line of stride — the path to and from — but too, the visioning out.
Like the tower, the edifice, that can be a place to live and to see. And what can be seen, close in the sited place, and be scene — far out. The place of dreams, imagining and the place of being held in the spirit of embrace — the identity and body of those that live there.
