METAPHORS OF THE LUMINOUS INTELLIGENCE

I’ve been working with scientists, these days, exploring ways to tell stories in a manner that people can understand. Or better still, ways that truly celebrate the power of what they are accomplishing, or dreaming of, in the nature of their work.

The issue is that scientists are really great, telling stories to each other, about what they are doing, and what they believe in – for themselves. But the translation of that text — the scientific messaging — is harder. The question might be: “how does the scientific idea become relevant to others, the resonance of it?”

It makes sense, it’s comprehensible — a person can “hold” or embrace the idea. When I think about the envisioning of content and information, I do consider the nature of how people see. So too, the idea of how people listen and understand.

I am often guilty of people not understanding what I’m talking about — so I need to be reframing it; looking for other ways in which messaging or visuals could be newly understood.

But I am curious about the light of the mind — the uppermost strata of intelligence, where the blinding light of new ideas can be wonderfully earth shaking and marvel-making. Crossing the sciences, the physical quality of luminosity, radiance: energy. The waves of light — rippling (of ideas.)

That light can be seen, held, embraced and comprehended in that holding, or it can be shielded — literally, blinding. Searching for beautiful and magnetizing visuals brings me to the very concept of search.

I think about that, the search for the idea, the information, the answer. And then how it might be visualized — the transport of amazing ideas to beautiful interpretations. The very nature of light, and the spreading beams of insight and marvel.

As I search, gather words — they accumulate, gather around, cluster like moths on the light.
