ACTION

ACTION

SOMETIMES, THE DRIVE FORTH OVERWHELMS THE SEEING.

Over the last couple of weeks, the idea of doing anything but working has been far from my mind. People have commented — “where is he?”

Just working. Acting. Hard, round the proverbial clock, trying to meet a convergent storm of projects, aligning at just the right instant — the vortex, perfected.

That idea of active — the act of moving, has some interesting side bars, reaching back. The bridge to the present is merely “a thing done” which has a legalist cant, the Old French, acte — a document. But that comes from the romans, their sense of act being actus, “a doing, a driving, impulse; a part in a play, an act,” and actum — “a thing done,” both as a legal term, agere — which in Latin is “to do, set in motion, drive, draw out or up,” reaching far back into the channels of linguistic time in the seed roots of the Proto Indo European languages — *ag — “to drive, draw out or forth, move” and the Greek agein to “lead, guide, drive, or carry off,” agon “assembly, contest in the games,” agogos “leader.” In the mixture of expressions, the Sanskrit offers ajati — also “drives” — or ajirah “moving, active;” the Old Norse — aka “to drive;” and the Middle Irish — ag for battle.

Still, the link of agein is linked to the stratum of strategy — ( strat ( ós ) army + -?gos noun derivative of ágein to lead)

With all this contemplation, the idea of acting — the active — is something more of an adventure; and during the course of this complicated set of times, I work to drive ahead — which in the movement forth, is to be just that: in front.

As a leader of teams — it’s always that, being in the front at the point of the most exposure, the leading edge, the opening frontline.

And sometimes, being in that place means that you are not allowed the meditation on the moment, except in the scanning of the periphery: you on on the forward ring of the spiral, rolling forward.

The search, ever onwards,
